Low cost cottage home doesn't necessarily mean a lower quality. The tricks to this design is combining primary appeals such as low maintenance, low cost and low environmental impact and the design ability to provide relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere. Important features to include is a private, peaceful setting and this can be achieved through the setting of many greenery that resembles that of jungle. Mixing concrete and glass structure offers a great view of the outdoors with natural landscape appeals that suits its natural surroundings. The glass wall leads to wood patio for close connection to the natural environment. The inside structure is divided by two main living areas with different characteristics of public and private life. While public spaces such as kitchen, dining room, living room, are placed in an glass-enclosed main room with doors to the terrace, the private living areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms are housed in a more closed setting. The project is located at the edge of Angeles forest, Los Angeles, and encompasses 6 acres of land. The surrounding city has grown and changed the visual and physical context. This results in contemporary needs of the new settlers which constitute a new relationship between building and landscape. The new residence takes the form of a heptagonal figure whose purity is confounded by a series of intersecting diagonal slices though space. Limited by an introverted exterior, living spaces unfold in a moir of shifting perspectival frames from within and throughout the house. The edges of the outdoor blur into the adjoining living spaces. This enables movement and visual relationships to expand and contract that fits well the centrifugal nature of the site and context.
